It seems like Major League Soccer Doesn’t Want You to Sell Your MLS Stuff on Etsy

From the “How Petty Can one Company get?” Department.
Looks like Major League soccer doesn’t want people selling stuff on the secondary market.

For the past 5 or 6 years, I have been selling vintage soccer stuff on Etsy- Any profits would have been spent on the local High School soccer team to buy things like sport tape and bottled water…and for the most part, listeners were really kind and would buy old soccer items as they knew their money wasn’t going to end up being used at the local watering hole.

I put this box up on Etsy and to be honest it hasn’t gotten much of a look from buyers. I am guessing the reason it hasn’t sold is that no one nows what was originally inside the box. I tried to reach out to the company that made the box- you can clearly see the stamp on the back with their name on it- but I got no response.

I certainly didn’t make this box.

So the email  received was pretty surprising- In a nutshell, Etsy was contacted by the legal department of MLS and asked to take down the listing for this box. (see photo)

I had it listed for 45 dollars as I had never seen one like this before and even asked my listeners for help on trying to find what this was originally intended for.

As you may know…the secondary market- places like Ebay, Etsy, OfferUp and Marketplace have been a God Send for people who want to make a bit of money as a side hustle. For me is was a good way to fundraise for the Girls’s Soccer team….so having MLS demand Etsy pull a sale item off your site is very disturbing.

Disturbing but not surprising! MLS has been making a string of bad decisions lately went it comes to their fans so I can chalk this up to the wrong people working in the soccer business in America.

The next thing I want to do is contact Jacquelin Russo Curtin at MLS and ask some questions but I am resigned to just take it on the chin and find other ways to fund my grass roots soccer adventures.
