The World Wide Soccer Show – EP 524 – Special Interview With Don Burris

After talking with Scotland icon Don Masson, I had to find Don Burris. And I did.
During the years between the NASL and MLS…there was nothing. At least I thought there was no football at all.
Don had a big part in keeping the soccer torch lit during that time where the US was a soccer barren wasteland. Being with The Kickers in LA, Don fielded players in the Western Soccer Alliance/Western Soccer League and played against teams that were the Seattle Sounders, SJ Earthquakes and Portland Timbers alongside teams like The San Diego Nomads and LA Heat.
These teams had notable players from the old NASL and some recognizable players like 1986’s MVP Paul Caligiuri (San Diego Nomads), 1988’s MVP Marcelo Balboa (San Diego Nomads)  and 1989’s MVP Kasey Keller (Portland Timbers).
I really enjoyed talking to Mr Buriss and I hope that I can get a few more interviews. There’s a lot more soccer history in LA than I thought.
